Maó The Balearic Department of Investigation, Technological Development and Innovation is currently finalising the arrangements for a congress to be held on the problems caused by jellyfish in the Mediterranean area in general and the islands in particular. This meeting will be held in Menorca at the end of September or early in October and will last for two days. Representatives from IMEDEA and the Oceanographic Institutes in the Balearic Islands, Barcelona, Murcia and Andalucía will be among the scientists sharing their knowledge in specialised fields, such as natural predators, and expounding on the problems caused by jellyfish on the Mediterranean coast. A second session will involve a meeting during which the conclusions reached previously will be divulged and companies will be invited to suggest actions or solutions that could help to reduce the presence of jellyfish.
