Discovery of 18th century shipwreck off Menorcan coastWhilst searching for white coral colonies in the seas around the island, the Argo Maris Foundation came across various anchors and other loose items C.M.W. Maó For the last two months the “Bon Pigall”, an advanced research boat belonging to the private foundation Argo Maris, has been prospecting for colonies of white coral in the waters around the Balearic Islands, in collaboration with the geology department of the Univeristy of Barcelona and various other institutions. Whilst working off the coast of Menorca the crew found a previously unknown shipwreck which could date from the 18th century. The discovery of various anchors and loose items was made in an area to the north of the island, possibly off the coast of Fornells, and at a depth of more than 100 metres.
