A study reveals abuses by the British during the eighteenth century A group of researchers at the University of the Balearic Islands suggests that the historiography has been overly lenient in referring to British domination and conquest of Minorca MSP Maó A recent study by a group of historians from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), headed by Professor of Modern History Josep Juan Vidal, has revealed abuses and violations to which the population was subjected Minorcan during the British invasion took place three hundred years ago. The conquest and the subsequent British domination of the island are part of an episode that, according to the researcher, has been treated too leniently by the traditional historiography. "So far the documentation that proves these facts had not come to light and, in my view, this aspect has been obviated by a historiography with excessive tendency to sing the glories of the British domination" says Vidal.
