Changes in Es Mercadal

Well for you that visit Es Mercadal and not been for a while thought time to give you some updates right starting from when you enter from the main Mahón road heading towards fornells

Going down the hill towards the Spar you will now see the new building on the right here you will find

Music & Dance School, Youth club thing (equivalent to what we would call it in England) which you can also go to get your unemployment card stamped. Also the adult learning courses

Head towards the Spar which is now open on Sundays 9.00am-2.00pm started early this year this will be on your left. This is brilliant as Eroski is shut still on Sundays

Also you can now drive down the side of the Spar as they have changed the driving system now quite handy well i think so lol. There was a new shop opened last year selling smelly candles well closed now and move to Mahón now another fruit shop will be opened shortly

On the left you will see the Emporium which do dress making cushions ect and on the corner used to be Etica Estate Agents now a car rental company owned by some Italians.

The driving School centre as now moved up to near the new Building mentioned earlier with the dance school

In the main centre now here we go for you that really know Es Mercadl lol

Carrer Nou we have two shops closed now the famous cake shop Jacquip and Stephen used to stock up at (yes your game is up maties lol totally shut) been done out at the moment so watch this space and also the opticians. This is now situated next to the famous Crisis.

A new deli has opened with some nice little products all from Menorca which you can take home for family and friends.

Bakers which is near the newsagents has been taken over totally the whole kit and kaboodle now tres pans dont know what it is like as not bought anything from there at the moment.

and wait for it and this is for col A NEW PROPER ITALIAN ICE CREAM PARLOUR WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO not open yet but will expect this open for the beginning of the season. Situated where the old Etica Estate Agents was.centre (nr the main clock)

Think that is it for now oh and the main street was finished last year so looks all nice and swish now no cars driving up there and PARKING YOU HAVE TO PAY NOW its kicked off early this year.

Information Centre is not the little hut now a plush little part of the new building at the side of the medical centre (opposite the theatre)

Looking forward to trying the ices no doubt will be visiting Mercadel inMay tried pomada slushies in the little cafe at the bottom of the steps in Mahon harbour with Des last year and they were fab

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They closed my cake shop?? took me all of 10 seconds to get there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are going to have to walk at least another 10 seconds to get to another one. How dare they close it - thought my custom was enough to keep it going!!!


Saying that though the normal lady in there wasnt there last September.

Ice cream parlour eh? if its anything like the one in San Luis I cannot wait - Col and Val told us aboout that one and tried it first time last year. Is it in the Etica one near you which has been closed or the one opposite Crises which was still there last Sept?

Yep its gone jacquip boooooooooooo no more bargain cakes!!!! Will have to try this one out in San Luis this week me thinks too and its where the old etica was opposite crisis how cool is that lol

Wonder if it will affect Gelat Gelat? so no Etica in Mercadal at all now then?

Any idea what the cake shop will reopen as? knew about the opticians as read it on the door next to crises last year. What is going in where the old opticians was?

well its a strange one as the lady you mentioned who worked in there was outside with her mum painting. She origianally went to the little shop that sells all sorts near the adjuntment so we are woundering are they all related and that shop will move there. Not seen her to ask but on the case lol

Thanks for that - expect an answer soon lol lol Is Los Clavelles bakery/cafe still at the Ferreries industrial estate on the right justbefore the roundabout? wonder if its just the Mercadal branch closed or whether the main one has too.

No the whole group has been taken over by tres pans i could not remember the name before jacquip thanks for that

so obviously with one tres pans already in Mercadal there would be no need to make Los Clavelles a tres pans, hence why it has closed down.

Have used Tres Pans in Ferreries before, its nearly opposite Movistar - well impressed.

Just Just a bit of a update

The old driving school and the bakers on Carrer Nou have the windows blocked and work going on (looks like nearly finished but no sign of what they are going to be grrrrrrrrrrrr)

The Italian Ice Cream parlour in the square near the clock is OPEN
11.30am - 8.30pm with 21 different variaties yum yum but no sign what days lol

Italian shop now open until 9.00pm and closed Tuesdays (so presume open all the other days)

The shop mentioned that closed (bakers bottom of Jacquips road) that is going to now be the little shop that is near the adjuntment if anyone knows it? sells odds and sods of food, organic ect

Well the women who worked in the bakers is going to be running it so you can still say hi to her jacquip and not sure yet when opened but everything moving quick

NEWS FLASH

Optician's is going to be a deli shop but with product at the lower end to the very pricey things so something for everyone. They are moving quick so will update actual products soon

The old shoe shop that is next to Sa Plaça we have heard is going to be a fruit and vedge shop but only rumors

The old driving school across from Meson restaurante has got a counter in and looks like two room ooerrrr what could it be!
