Molí del rei (King’s mill)
This building was originally a windmill for grinding flour, built at the beginning of the XVIII century, known as the King’s mill. It is located between the new and the old lane to Sant Felip castle, it has been largely hidden from view among a cluster of houses and thanks to this location, it remained in good condition until now. In 2000 GOB acquired the windmill for its central office and started restoring this historic gem from a quite dilapidated state. The windmill restoration allows everybody access. Going up the windmill tower you can enjoy of a magnificent and amazing view of the city and observe its most significant architectural features: nearby the fortress at La Mola, the area of Ses Vinyes, Es Castell and in the distance Monte Toro. Italian and Menorcan communities were brought together at the weekend when the statuette of San Carlos Borromeo was blessed and placed on the altarpiece of the presbytery of the restored old chapel of the Military Hospital.
Two hundred people travelled over to the island for the ceremony that took place on Sunday.
The statuette was taken from the quayside on the island to the chapel, accompanied by the Es Migjorn Band.
Members of the Italian community turned out in force and enjoyed the special atmosphere that the chapel gave to the occasion. The Italians were thanked by Father Macián for the part they have played in the restoration work on the Illa del Rei.

ENDESA to donate 60,000 euros to the Illa del Rei
The ENDESA foundation has approved a donation of 60,000 euros for the Association of Friends of Hospital Island to offset the cost of the project to artistically illuminate the old British Naval hospital in the port of Maó.
The association that is restoring the buildings on the Illa del Rei signed an agreement with Red Eléctrica Española some months ago for the supply of electricity and with the company Cables&Systems for the laying of undersea electricity cables from Es Castell to the islet.
