Booted Eagle takes up residence in Menorca
A study of birds, carried out by Félix de Pablo and Carlota Viada and published in the ecological group GOB´s 2009 Ornithological Yearbook, shows there to be 91 points in Menorca inhabited by the Booted Eagle (Hieratus pennatus). These magnificent raptors are to be found in all of the municipal districts, apart from Es Castell and Sant Lluís, with th majority of sightings being reported in Maó(21), Ciutadella (19), Es Mercadal (18), and Ferreries (15); Alaior with 10 sightings and Es Migjorn Gran with 8 not proving quite so popular with this protected species. Around 77% of this territory is inhabited by frequently-sighted pairs of booted eagles with nests in the area.
