The old "Firestone" building on the corner of José Maria Quadrado and Calle San Esteban in Mahón will soon cease to exist. The emblematic building is to be demolished to make way for a block of flats of "Alto standing" (The delicious "Spanglish" used to describe anything that is of high quality Theoretically), and usually expensive). The block will contain 26 one or two bed roomed flats, and some duplexes. The lower part will have four commercial locations. The promoters say that some properties have already sold from the plans to Spanish and Menorcan clients as the area is popular. The alcalde of Mahón, Vincenç Tur, is delighted that someone is investing in the present economic climate and says the old building had long been in disuse.
