Ocibar to increase mooring charges by up to six times
Many of the boat owners whose vessels are moored on the far side of Maó harbour (“S’Altra Banda”) have had an unpleasant surprise on learning of the new mooring charges to be imposed by Ocibar, the company which took over the marina concession from Ribera del Puerto. The new prices will also apply to boatowners whose moorings have until now been run by the Balearic Port Authority (APB) but which have now passed into private hands under an agreement on the exploitation of berths in the area.
Whilst the cost of mooring a boat of under 7 metres in the new marina will increase by 8%, other owners will face a bill six times the amount they paid previously. As an example, the owner of a llaüt 5.65 metres in length who was paying 294.62 euros will now have to pay Ocibar 318.18 euros, whilst the seafarer with a llaüt of 7.65 metres will see his tariff increase from 614.18 euros to 3,763.44 euros, six times the previous cost. However, a newcomer with a boat under 7 metres in length will be charged 2,067.59 euros, a rise of 602% on the previous fee.
