Son Dureta Hospital to provide locums for Menorca
An agreement signed between the hospitals Son Dureta and Mateu Orfila will help to overcome the problem of providing cover for specialists at the Maó hospital, with the Palma centre supplying a locum in cases where the specialist’s absence would have repercussions in the care of patients.
The agreement will also provide more training opportunities for the medical staff, by rotating doctors from the Mateu Orfila in the Son Dureta services, training courses and joint clinic sessions.
It will also develop telemedicine and make it possible to share information on complementary tests in real time.
The Head of the Health Department in Menorca, Antoni Gómez Arbona, stressed that this was not aimed at cutting the number of specialists on the island but admitted that there are currently four vacancies to be filled.
