Facelift for early Christian site on the Illa del Rei starts soon
After forty years of neglect archaeologists will begin restoration work on monument on the Illa del Rei in Maó harbour at the start of June
A team of several archaeologists, directed by Margarita Orfila will begin work next month on the Illa del Rei.
The Menorcan professor holds a professorship at the University of Granada and is vice-president of the Ateneo de Maó.
The restoration project will be on a monument that dates back to the 6th century. The early Christian basilica was discovered in 1888 by farmhands who were preparing the land for sowing.
