Menorca will serve as model to create equestrian routes
Menorca will serve as a model to other European countries that persecute the economic and social development of some of their regions thanks to the equestrian tourism. The Consell, through the Fundació Destí and in collaboration with several deprived organizations of the Island, will start up the next year a test pilot that will consist of the creation of an equestrian route, whose duration and route will be variable and where the clients will have including services like transfers and lodging. Once verified its result, this one and other routes created to the effect they will be able to enter later within a commercial circuit in the form of packages of equestrian tourism. The menorquina experience will be exported to the rest of Europe.
The objective is to favor the deseasonalisation through an own and differentiated tourist resource as it is the culture of the horse, according to explained yesterday insular conseller of Tourism, Bred Lazaro, who emphasized that the election of Menorca like model must to the existence in the Island of an equestrian professional weave that fulfilled the requirements demanded by Europe. The initiative is framed within the project of equestrian tourism of European scope denominated Equustur in which 11 destinies of Spain, France and Portugal participate altogether, with a grant of 1.4 million Euros, financed to the 75 percent with European bottoms. The 25 remaining percent is contributed by the regions associated, that in the case of Menorca will be 143,870 Euros. The project will last of two years and in Spain they participate, besides Menorca, five localities of Extremadura and Catalonia.
For its beginning the Consell will contact with picaderos, equestrian companies of the Island that supply excursions and with different travel agencies. From the Administration we tried to create new platforms that generate business opportunities so that the companies can concur in free competition and make their own tourist packages , explained Servant. Conseller emphasized that the maintenance of these routes could run in charge of the Consell or of the companies operate that them. the project seemed to us ideal because of Menorca a more competitive destiny ago and contributes new niches of market with capacity to consume tourist product outside season and without depredating natural resources , emphasized Servant.
This European initiative will be developed in four phases. First it will include the elaboration of a protocol of equestrian tourism through the putting common of the diverse existing regulating norms of this activity in the three participant countries.
