Es Mercadal school reaches the final of a national award
A mediation project developed by the public school Mare de Déu del Toro Es Mercadal has been selected to go national "Award for Master Action 2009 '. The initiative focuses on the introduction of the mediation service and conflict resolution in early childhood and primary education.
In the latter, which have been implicated, in addition to the school community, families and other actors, is based on an innovative theoretical foundation, which has proved effective in resolving conflicts in other social settings. Thus, as reported by the Directorate General for Innovation and Teacher Training in a press release, 90 percent of teachers participating in an educational seminar in conflict resolution.
Through this project, students were offered spaces for dialogue and respect for older and have more activities that are conducted weekly tutoring at all levels. The mediation service is part of a project of offering a high degree of satisfaction among students, while about 40 percent used it to find a solution to their conflicts.
The main objective of this project is to prevent acts of social exclusion as a dropout, bullying, eating disorders or drug abuse. To do so, with the involvement of the whole school, families and volunteers.
All applications received were assessed in the Balearics by technicians of the Office of the Master Award for Action, experts of the Foundation for Help Against Drug Addiction (FAD) and technicians from the Ministry of Education. Thus, this project will happen as a finalist in the Balearic Autonomous National Assessment phase. These recommendations, reports and evaluations will be forwarded to the National Evaluation Committee and then the jury that, after a period of reflection and debate, will issue his opinion.
The award to the Action Master tries to identify and raise awareness of educational projects developed during the 2008/2009 school year in kindergarten, primary or special education to work specifically for the establishment of social values among students and to help prevent behavior social risk.
This edition has a total of 251 applications from schools across the country, but, ultimately, have been chosen by the 142 eligible for the award.
