Sant Marti Fiesta
Saturday 18th July
1700hrs A peal of bells rings out and this will be when the 'fabioler' (flautist), Francesc Gomila Pons, will go tot he Town Hall to ask permission to start the fiesta and will play the first note on the 'fabiol' (flute.
Following this he will go to find the 'caixera sobreposada', Regina Sintes Triay, and together they will go to collect the flag from the Town Hall. From there, they will meet other riders from the cavalcade and will then tour the town. At the end of their tour they will go to collect the 'caixer pages', Joan Fullana Pelegri, and the 'caixer casat'. Pere Valdell Pons, from their respective homes.
At the same time, the Es Mercadal Band, conducted by Litus Arguibau, will tour the town, accompanied by the giants and carnival figures who will parade through the main streets of the town together with the giants from Mao.
At 1800 hrs they will go to find the 'caixer capella' the Reverend Francesc J Cardona Vidal, in the Plaza de l'Esglesia and will then go to Avenida Ronda de s'Estancia, No 29, to collect the 'caixer batle' Francesc Ametller Pons, who will preside over the cavalcade.
Once the retinue is complete, they will head for the Town Hall, where the 'caixer batle' will be handed the baton which gives him the ultimate authority over the cavalcade from the Mayor of the district, Ramon Orfila Pons. They will then follow a route throught he streets of the town until they reach the Plaza Constitucio where, at 1900 hrs they will hold the traditional 'JALEO' following which they will parade though the central streets of the town
2345 hrs in the Sant Marti Church, celebration of compline, attended by the riders and authorities. During this act the younger riders will hand out the traditional little candles (the tradition is to keep them alight until the Riders Refreshments).
At the end of this act, all the riders in the cavalcade will be invited to a feast in the Old Peoples Home.
At the same time there will be an official reception for the authorities and guests in the Town Hall.
0030 hrs in Calle Doctor Llanso (on the corner of C/de s'Era Vella) Dance with the Duo Melody
0100 hrs in the Plaza Pare Camps Musical Performance by the Four Tops. Gentileza de Romantic, show business agents.
The fiesta will then continue with music from Miquel and J L Febre
Sunday 19th July
0830 hrs Reveille by the Dalt Sant Joan Pipe and Drum Band
0900 hrs The 'fabioler' (flute player) sets out, following the same route as the previous day, to start touring the streets of the town
11.00 hrs in the Plaza Constitucio, 'JALEO' and presentation of the green canes. Followed by mass in the Sant Marti Church, attended by the riders and authorities, during which 'aigua-ros' will be handed out.
Afterwards, the reception put on by the Town Council for the riders and the rest of the town in 'la Sala'. During this act, the Mayor will receive the flag on behalf of the 'sobreposat' and the baton on behalf of the 'caixer batle'. Following this reception, the riders will accompany the 'caixer batle' and the 'caixer capells' to their respective homes and bid them farewell and the last notes will be played on the 'fabiol'.
During the afternoon the younger riders will deliver the 'aigua-ros' to homes in the town.
20.30 hrs in the Plaza Pare Camps Circus show Rene y Sanbasilio, with the campany Aplom y vol.
21.30 hrs in the Plaza Pare Camps, musical performance by the Notes Soltes a folk group who will brighten up the evening and encourage us to dance
23.30 hrs in the Plaza Pare Camps open air dance to the band Rodamons
