Island to be provided with new Firefighting helicopter
The Department of the Environment is to send a new helicopter to Menorca to help in the campaign to prevent and fight forest fires. The aircraft, equipped with the most modern safety systems, has been added to the fleet this year.
The plane is a Ecureuil AS-350 B3, single turbine machine with a capacity for 6 passengers plus crew and 900 litres of water. There is also a fleet monitoring system installed in each aircraft which gives information in real time on its position and the amount of water dropped. The helicopter is fitted with various safety devices and will operate on the island until mid October.

There was a small one last month Jackie but nothing that the fire brigade could not cope with. As far as I am aware it is the first one on the island and will certainly be of use if there are any fires here. Especially with the tempretures we have been getting so far and it isn't even summer yet!
