Vides only a single landÁngeles M.Bishop Mahón Four of the six wineries of the island which have the mark of identification of the geographical Vi Terra Illa de Menorca participating in a study funded by the Government and conducted by the Department of Chemistry, Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB), in collaboration with schools in Valencia and Catalonia, which analyzes the influence of environment on the characteristics of the wines. The study, which began on January 1 and ending on December 1 this year, takes place throughout the Community and participation is voluntary. The cellars of Menorca who collaborate with the project are Patrici Hort de Sant Vi of S'Illa, Bodegas Bodegas Mariano and Minorcan Crispín Binitord. The initiative stems from the need to meet the new European Union directive that will force all European wine quality before 31 December 2011 to justify the features that make them different from other wines, ie they are unique, are the result of the geographical environment in which they grow their vines and the natural and human factors inherent in these areas.
