Maó earned over half a million euros from traffic fines in 2008
Fines for traffic offences brought Maó Council 565,989 euros last year and are expected to rise to 583,000 euros this year. Since the Council decided to contract out the service, the amount raised in fines has increased dramatically; from 265.488 euros in 2006 to 561,158 in 2007, after Tribugest became responsible for collecting fines.
Despite the increase, the Councillor for General Services, Àngels Andreu, informed a Council meeting that the number of fines imposed has dropped over the last three years, from 49,000 fines in the year 2006 to 32,719 the following year and 21,985 in 2008, a drop of over 56% in the last three years.
