“Acuarium” to make way for luxury flats
A familiar sight on the waterfront in Maó for over a century, the building which housed the aquarium, a well-known tourist attraction from the 1970’s to early 1990’s, is to be demolished. In its place the 726 sq.m. plot will accommodate 15 luxury flats built above commercial premises with a swimming pool behind and a lift to connect the building to the Cuesta del General. Work will be done on the cliff face behind the plot to ensure that it is sound and the project, estimated at 1.5 million euros, will take eighteen months to complete.
