Folding deck chairs made on the island are being marketed successfully on the mainland as Menorcan Deck chairs. Miquel Anglada founded the company in 1905 and in the 1930's he made the prototype for the chair. He was inspired by folding stools known as catres in Menorquin, that people used to take to church.
There are now two companies in Ciudadella producing the chairs. Ca'n Coca Roassa produce an artesian type. Last year a Mexican landowner liked the chairs and ordered hundreds of them from Anglada. The company has also supplied a luxury hotel in Morocco. Some new models have been introduced, small ones for children, rocking chairs, and wider ones which are sold in Germany and have also been successful in the Menorca itself.
