ViveMenorca narrowly beaten in first game of the new season
A disallowed basket in the last seconds of the game (or after the whistle, according to the referee) robbed ViveMenorca of the chance to equalise the final score and play extra time against opponents Tau Cerámica, current champions of the ACB league, in their first match of the 2008-2009 season, played in front of a home crowd at Bintaufa. The home team played a good game, raising the hopes and expectations of their loyal supporters, the final score reading ViveMenorca 77, Tau Cerámica 79.
The local team has lodged an appeal to the ACB, with a supporting video showing that the basket was scored within the period of play, but the likelihood of the decision being reversed is not regarded as high.
ViveMenorca has two games scheduled this week: an away match tomorrow night against Iurbentia Bilbao Basket at 2030 hrs.; and a home game against DKV Joventud on Sunday, at 1230 hrs. (to be shown live on Canal 33 and IB3).
